"Secret Recipe" French Toast
(makes 12 slices, increase all ingredients proportionately to make more)
12 slices white bread
1 cup milk
½ cup sugar
¼ cup vanilla
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp allspice
½ tsp nutmeg
Additional cinnamon for sprinkling
Beat together everything but the bread and the “additional cinnamon”.
Lightly oil skillet and heat skillet on medium-low to medium heat.
Sprinkle skillet lightly with additional cinnamon.
Quickly dip bread in mix and remove and place on skillet. If you let the bread soak in the mix for more than a few seconds, it turns to goo and you cannot get it out. The heat will cause the mix to soak to the center of the bread as it cooks.
Lightly sprinkle cinnamon over the top of the toast.
Cook until light to medium brown on bottom, flip and cook second side the same. Be careful, both milk and sugar burn quickly.
Serve hot buttered and dusted with powdered sugar, or with syrup. This French Toast is sweet without topping. Additional topping is not really necessary.
